The program, hosted by Southern, is designed as a fun way to help local students learn about nutrition and physical fitness, in addition to buck the rising obesity trend among children. Students ages 10-14 prepared healthy dishes for their lunch buffet in the kitchen of SU's Foods Laboratory in Pinkie E. Thrift Hall. The workshop was run by Anne Corr, an instructor in the Nutritional Sciences Department at Penn State University. She was brought in by Glenda S. Johnson, an associate professor and researcher at the SU Ag Center. The camp, which began in early June and continues through early July, consists of cooking education in the mornings and exercise at the Southern University Laboratory School Campus in the afternoons.
