BRPD offers concealed carry permit classes

The Baton Rouge Police Department will offer two concealed handgun permit classes in August and September at the Police Department Pistol Range, 999 W. Irene Road, Zachary.

The daylong classes will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 30 and September 13. The class is open to anyone 21 years old or older and people only need to attend one day to become certified.

The cost is $100 and participants need to bring their own handgun and ammunition.

Class sizes are limited to 20 per day so police recommended that those interested register early by calling the Police Department Training Academy at (225) 389-3886.

Authorities book three on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish — including a Baton Rouge man on a fifth-offense DWI — and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

George Kaufman, 37, 10115 Ave. J, Baton Rouge, fifth-offense DWI and reckless operation.

Mimi Guercio, 19, 1109 Belvedere Drive, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI and cutting across private property.

Willie Ross, 61, 4962 Enterprise St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, careless driving and improper turn.
