LSU PM Practice Report: Foster in walking boot, Mainieri visits

Scene setting

- LSU ended its third day of fall camp with an afternoon practice in 90-plus degree temperatures. Like the morning drills (with Leonard Fournette arriving), a surprising person made an appearance at practice Wednesday afternoon: LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri.

Observations

- Foster injured: Backup quarterback Jared Foster was seen in a walking boot during Wednesday’s drills. He watched Brandon Harris and Jake Clise practice during afternoon drills with a boot on his left foot and ankle. A team spokesman did not immediately have information on the injury. Foster, who plays outfield on the baseball team, rejoined the football team this summer after a trio of reserve QBs left the team in a five-month span. Foster walked on to the football team as a freshman. The junior is expected to be the No. 3 quarterback behind Harris and Anthony Jennings.

- Mainieri shows: LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri was at Wednesday afternoon’s fall camp to watch Foster practice. Mainieri did not know the extent of Foster’s injury. Mainieri met and talked with coach Les Miles along with baseball assistant Andy Cannizaro, the team’s new hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.

Next up

One half of the team will practice at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in shells while the other goes in the afternoon. It’s the last day of LSU’s split-squad practices. The Tigers will have a full squad practice in full pads Friday.
