5 and out

1. Stanley Jean-Baptiste remains a work in progress. The cornerback was made to go through a positional drill three times by coach Wesley McGriff due to poor technique. The 6-foot-3 Jean-Baptiste has intriguing size, but has some work to do before challenging for reps.

2. Brandon Coleman took a big step toward changing his initial impression. After dropping several passes in organized team activities and minicamp, the undrafted wide receiver out of Rutgers made a great catch over cornerback Corey White.

3. Sticking with the rookies, Brandin Cooks had a solid debut. He gets off the line quickly and is often stepping by his man before he can turn his hips. This formula allowed him to beat his man off the line and go up and over Ty Zimmerman to catch a deep pass from Drew Brees.

4. Speaking of McGriff, his fire and passion for his job was on display throughout Friday’s practice. He isn’t afraid to show his emotions, both good and bad.

5. Pro golfer Bubba Watson was in attendance and dropped a pass from Brees. Watson, who remained stationary during the pass, accused the quarterback of under throwing him. Brees countered by saying Watson needed to come back to ball.
