Arson suspected in vacant house fire

Baton Rouge fire investigators say someone set fire to a vacant home on Braddock Street early Sunday, causing $45,000 in damage.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department was called to 1562 Braddock St., about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Curte Monte, a Fire Department spokesman, said in a news release.

Flames engulfed the back of the house by the time fire fighters arrived. Flames ate through half the house before fire fighters brought the blaze under control, Monte said. The fire started on a back porch of the house.

The house was valued at $75,000 before the fire, the release says.

The Fire Department urged anyone with information to call fire investigators at (225) 354-1419.
