NWS issues flash flood watch for southeast Louisiana

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi until 6 p.m. on Friday.

Louisiana parishes in the watch area include Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

Mississippi counties in the watch area include Amite and Wilkinson.

Numerous showers and thunderstorms today will result in widespread 3 to 5 inch rainfall totals today with locally higher amounts possible.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding -- a very dangerous situation.
