Sheriff’s deputy involved in New Iberia shooting

An Iberia Parish sheriff’s deputy shot a man who brandished a gun at him as the deputy responded to a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of Evangeline Street just after 8 p.m. Saturday, State Police Trooper Brooks David said.

The armed man was standing was standing in the doorway of the house as the deputy approached, David said. After shouting at the man to drop the gun, the deputy fired from in front of the house and hit him an unknown number of times, David said.

The man was transported to a local hospital where his condition was not known late Saturday.
