Thieves get away with $1, leave vending machines damaged

Police officers are looking for two men who broke into hotel vending machines earlier this month and caused more than $700 in damage but walked out with $1 in change.

The men broke into vending machines on different floors of the hotel July 1 but pocketed only four quarters because the machines had just been emptied, Gonzales police said.

Police released hotel security camera photographs Thursday of the two men in the hotel, including a man who walked into the hotel lobby hiding a pry bar under his dark shirt.

Police Detective Sgt. Steven Nethken said Thursday that man damaged the machines while the other man, who was wearing a hat and a yellow shirt, acted as a lookout.

Those with information may call Crime Stoppers or the Gonzales Police Department at (225) 647-9572.
