Man accepts plea deal in 2012 shooting death of roommate, sentenced to 24 years

A 34-year-old Baton Rouge man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2012 shooting death of his roommate in their Sycamore Street home and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Lonnie Charles Johnson Jr. was scheduled to stand trial Monday on a second-degree murder charge in the death of 57-year-old Bobby Rowe, but instead entered into a plea agreement.

State District Judge Richard Anderson sentenced Johnson under the terms of the agreement between Johnson and East Baton Rouge Parish prosecutors.

Police have said the shooting occurred March 15, 2012, during a fight between the two men.
