Pedestrian dies after he was struck by pickup truck

An 18-year-old man died Saturday after being hit by a pickup while trying to cross Siegen Lane at Industriplex Boulevard in East Baton Rouge Parish early Friday.

Daniel Rivas, of Baton Rouge, was walking across Siegen shortly before 2:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Stephen Wagley, 23, of Baton Rouge, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said.

“Wagley was unable to avoid Rivas as he was walking in the roadway and struck him with his vehicle,” Sandifer said.

Rivas was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and died Saturday, Sandifer said.

Wagley was not cited and is not suspected of being impaired, Sandifer said. Troopers are unsure if Rivas was impaired, but said he was wearing dark clothing when he was struck.
