Eunice motorcyclist dies from injuries in New Iberia wreck Eunice motorcyclist dies from injuries in New Iberia wreck Advocate staff report July 09, 2014 Comments A Eunice man has died in a Lafayette hospital from injuries received Thursday morning when his motorcycle crashed into a car that turned into his path in New Iberia, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office announced just after noon on Friday. Darrel Toepfer, 54, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, according to a press release. Toepfer was wearing a helmet, but not one not certified by the Department of Transportation, and sustained head injuries in the crash, Sheriff Louis Ackal said in a press release. The accident occurred before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, when Betty Walker, 62 of New Iberia, traveling south on Center Street turned left toward a private drive and into the path of Toepfer’s 2007 Suzuki motorcycle. Walker, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. She was cited for failure to yield, the press release said.
