State Police: Two Florida men arrested after Tuesday night chase

Two Florida men, one wanted on drug charges, were arrested late Tuesday after a highway chase from Port Allen to Baton Rouge and then a foot chase from the Chili’s near College Drive to a nearby hotel, State Police said.

A trooper initially tried to stop them for a traffic violation on Interstate 10 at Mile Marker 147 just west of Port Allen, but the car continued traveling east into Baton Rouge, prompting pursuit by three troopers around 11 p.m., Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said.

The driver exited at College Drive and ran off the road, crashing into a Chili’s parking lot and doing extensive damage to his car and minor damage to another car, Sandifer said.

From the parking lot, the men ran into the Crowne Plaza, 4728 Constitution Ave., the trooper said.

Baton Rouge Police assisted with a police dog and the suspects were located hiding on the second floor of the Crowne Plaza, Sandifer said.

The driver, Alexander Madison, 24, of Pensacola, faces several charges including flight from an officer, improper lane usage, reckless operation, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a peace officer and hit and run, Sandifer said.

The passenger, Alvin Carter, 25, of Pensacola, wanted on drug possession with intent to distribute charges out of Florida, also faces a count of flight from an officer, Sandifer said.
