Advocate story Comments DUTCHTOWN — Two young children were killed and three adults injured Tuesday afternoon in Ascension Parish after a SUV went off Bluff Road and crashed into a group of people fishing in a roadside bayou, State Police said. A Nissan Armada was southbound on Bluff Road, south of Interstate 10 and north of Bluff Oaks Avenue, at about 3:30 p.m. when it ran off the road and into the fishing party, said Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman. The identities of the victims weren’t immediately released, but Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said the children were 6 and 9. The three adults suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center for treatment, police said. Driver impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said. Based on an initial investigation, troopers suspect the SUV veered off the road and into an embankment before sliding roughly 100 feet and striking the fishing party, police said.
