Forbes credits marketing for U.S. Rep. Scalise's success

U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., went from an “obscure member of the rank and file” to the top three of the Republican leadership by personifying lagniappe, according to Forbes.com.

The article describes three marketing lessons from the new House Whip: Scalise marketed himself with a signature extra, individually wrapped pralines; followed up with colleagues through personal notes and sometimes flowers; and he did this consistently from the time he arrived in Washington, D.C., five years ago.

The article on Forbes’ website says Scalise became Majority Whip because of his attention to detail. The personal cards weren’t part of a last-minute campaign but a commitment.
