President’s Awards to Timothy F. Averill, of Mandeville, who served as the Supreme Court’s judicial administrator and CEO of the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana and previously was deputy judicial administrator and general counsel of the Supreme Court, for his years of service to the Louisiana Supreme Court and the state’s justice system; Leo C. Hamilton, a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson LLP, for his years of service to Louisiana’s legal community and justice system; and posthumously to Mark A. Moreau, of New Orleans, for his years of service as a public interest advocate. From 1988 to 2003, Moreau was executive director of the New Orleans Legal Assistance Corp. It merged with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in 2003 and he was co-executive director until 2013. Distinguished Service to the Profession Award to Barry H. Grodsky, a partner in the New Orleans firm of Taggart Morton LLC, for his years of service as chair of the LSBA’s Committee on the Profession. Catherine D. Kimball Award for Advancement of the Administration of Justice to Judge Jules D. Edwards III, who presides over Division B of the 15th Judicial District Court in Lafayette and is a pioneer in the Drug Treatment Court movement. Stephen T. Victory Memorial Award to Scott T. Whittaker, a member of Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann LLC in New Orleans, and Dona K. Renegar, a member in the Lafayette office of Huval, Veazey, Felder & Renegar LLC, for their outstanding contributions to the Louisiana Bar Journal, the LSBA’s bimonthly magazine. Human Rights Award to New Orleans attorney Lynn Luker, owner of Lynn Luker and Associates LLC in New Orleans, for her commitment to working toward inclusion and diversity within the legal profession and to the New Orleans office of Adams and Reese LLP for the work of its Diversity Committee and Minority Attorney Committee, which develops and promotes diversity through events targeted to minority attorneys, clients and the community. Leah Hipple McKay Award for Outstanding Volunteerism to Brian D. Lenard of Hammond, who served as executive director of Southeast Louisiana Legal Services for 36 years until retiring in May. John Ashby Hernandez III Memorial Award for Francophone Leadership to Professor Olivier Moréteau of LSU in Baton Rouge, director of the Center of Civil Law Studies, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Civil Law Studies and the associate vice chancellor for international programs. Curtis R. Boisfontaine Trial Advocacy Award to Charles F. Gay Jr., a partner in the New Orleans office of Adams and Reese LLP. Young Lawyers Division awards to local area recipients Victor J. Suane Jr., a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Kean Miller LLP, Outstanding Young Lawyer Award; Sara B. Rodrigue, an associate in the Lafayette firm of NeunerPate, the Bat P. Sullivan Jr. Chair’s Award; Mackenzie S. New Orleans area Delgado Community College chefs Eric Mark and Joseph St. Paul have earned the certification of certified executive chef from the American Culinary Federation. Certification is based on a comprehensive two-part test. David Fennelly, director of Associated Terminals LLC and Turn Services LLC, is the recipient of the 2014 C. Alvin Bertel Award from The World Trade Center of New Orleans. The award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the Louisiana port community. Fennelly has grown the two companies into a major provider of marine services in the Gulf South Region, focused primarily on the Lower Mississippi River from the mouth of the river to Baton Rouge. The companies employ more than 650 people, trans-load over 24 million tons of cargo annually and transport and fleet tens of thousands of barge loads of cargo each year. Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, an architecture, interiors and urban design studio, has been named the 2014 Architecture Firm Award recipient by the American Institute of Architects. The award recognizes an architecture firm that has consistently produced distinguished architecture for at least 10 years. Kerry St. Pé, executive director of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program, has been named an honorary member of the American Society of Landscape Architects for his service to the profession. The honorary membership is presented to non-landscape architects and is for his work to protect significant Louisiana landscapes and educate the public about the region’s fragile ecosystem. Since the association was formed in 1899, the society has inducted only 162 honorary members. Lafayette area Tony Chachere’s Famous Creole Cuisine and Benedict Advertising & Marketing in Lafayette received five international Telly Awards in the local and regional TV categories for use of music and set design and local TV in the packaged goods category. The commercial included an original composition from zydeco accordionist, band leader and composer Geno Delafose. The one commercial won a total of five Tellys in the award’s 35th annual competition.
