Blind River reopened after closure due to high water levels

The Blind River in St. James, Ascension and St. James parishes reopened to boating traffic at 5 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

That waterway and others in the parish had been closed due to heavy rains last week and the flooding that followed.

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez said Wednesday that leaders in all three parishes agreed to open the Blind River on Wednesday and open all other inland waterways, including the Amite River and the river’s Diversion Canal, at noon Thursday.
