CenturyLink and Entergy are the only Louisiana-based companies to make the annual Fortune 500 list of top revenue-generating companies in the U.S. that was again topped by Wal-Mart.
Monroe-based CenturyLink moved down the list while New Orleans-based Entergy edged up.
CenturyLink ranked 158, with $18.1 billion in revenue, dropping from a 2013 ranking of 150. Entergy ranked 242, at $11.4 billion in revenue, moving up from its previous ranking of 261. CenturyLink’s revenue dropped 1.5 percent, while Entergy’s gained 10.6 percent.
Revenue at the 500 companies on the list ranged from Wal-Mart’s $473.1 billion to United Rentals’ nearly $5 billion.
Retail giant Wal-Mart edged out Exxon Mobil for the second year in a row for the top spot on the Fortune 500. For fiscal year 2014, Wal-Mart’s net sales were up 1.6 percent from the year-earlier period. Exxon Mobil saw its annual revenue drop 8.8 percent to $438.3 billion.
CenturyLink is the third-largest telecommunications company in the United States. It provides data, voice and managed services in local, national and select international markets through its fiber optic network and multiple data centers for businesses and consumers.
Entergy delivers electricity to 2.8 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
