Ascension Parish sheriff calls deadly Donaldsonville shooting a ‘hit’

Sheriff, Crime Stoppers offering rewards

DONALDSONVILLE — A man was shot and killed while visiting a friend on the friend’s porch late Sunday in what the Ascension Parish sheriff said Monday appeared to be a “hit.”

Sheriff Jeff Wiley said Adoriji Wilson, 37, was visiting a friend at 911 Elizabeth St. in a densely populated section of Donaldonsville’s “back of town” area, when he was shot shortly before midnight Sunday.

Wiley said there were no reports of shouting or an argument that preceded the shooting in what appeared to be, “I hate to say it, a hit.”

Wiley said the alleged shooter, who has not been identified, apparently just walked up and fired at Wilson on the porch where he was with several other men.

When deputies arrived, Wilson was found lying on the porch unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said in a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office did not provide Wilson’s address or hometown Monday, but a March 2013 traffic ticket lists it as 215 Anthony Drive, Donaldsonville.

Investigators are still looking for the shooter, who was wearing a fluorescent green rain suit with the hood pulled over his head when he approached Wilson, deputies said.

Wiley said investigators were still following leads Monday, and Wiley added they were hoping and expecting some of the witnesses would come forward.

According to Ascension Parish criminal records, Wilson had several traffic violations. He also had a first-offense driving while intoxicated charge and misdemeanor possession of marijuana charges, to which he pleaded guilty in January 2006.

Those with information should call (225) 621-INFO (4636) or text 847411 to reach the sheriff’s anonymous tip line or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).

The Sheriff’s Office is offering a $2,500 reward in addition to the $2,500 reward Crime Stoppers is offering for information that leads to the arrest of the alleged shooter.
