Eric Lafleur, D-Ville Platte, and state Sen. Karen Peterson, D-New Orleans, discuss a proposal Wednesday that would remove the mandatory retirement age for judges. Capitol news bureau May 28, 2014 Comments On a 32-4 vote, the state Senate gave final legislative approval Wednesday to a proposed constitutional amendment that would remove the mandatory retirement age for judges. House Bill 96 puts the proposal on the November ballot, allowing the state’s voters to decide whether judges should retire at age 70. The proposal would amend the state constitution to eliminate the mandatory retirement age. The bill drew little discussion in the state Senate. Legislators are focused on money issues. The state budget is up for debate.
