Martiny going for cancer treatment

State Sen. Danny Martiny is headed to Houston’s M.D. Anderson Medical Center for cancer treatment.

A somber Louisiana Senate paused Thursday to pray for Martiny, a Metairie lawyer and legislative Republican leader.

A short time later, the House stopped for a moment of silence for Martiny as he prepares to fight the newly-diagnosed cancer.

Martiny, 62, is chairman of the Senate’s Commerce Committee.

He has been a legislator since 1994, winning election to seat in the House. He is in his second term in the Senate.
