Zachary man arrested in Plank Road holdup

Baton Rouge police arrested a Zachary man Tuesday in the Monday robbery of a Dollar General store on Plank Road, a police spokesman said.

Billie Washington, 31, 21930 Samuel Road, was booked into Parish Prison on Tuesday morning on a count of armed robbery, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a police spokesman.

Washington was found through a Crimestoppers tip, Coppola said.

Coppola said Washington walked into the store at 4017 Plank Road at 1:50 p.m. Monday, appearing as though he was shopping, then showed the cashier a handgun, snatched money from the register and grabbed some items from the store’s shelves before running out.

Coppola said police recovered some stolen property from Washington when they arrested him.
