Police ID man found dead Wednesday

A man found Wednesday face down on the sidewalk at Scenic Highway and Mulberry Street has been identified by police as Calvin Gholar, 49, 10145 Bowman Ave. Gholar died from trauma injuries to the head, according to Baton Rouge Police.

At about 10:45 p.m. April 30, police responded to a call of a man lying face down on the sidewalk and saw he had some type of injury to his head. East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services workers responded, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No motive is known at this time.

Zachary man booked in bank robbery

Baton Rouge Police arrested a 40-year-old Zachary man Thursday evening in the April 28 armed robbery of Regions Bank.

A police officer tried to stop a vehicle while on patrol in the 9200 block of South Choctaw, but the driver tried to drive away, crashed into a vehicle and then tried to run away. Quarles Harris, 40, 9530 Lemon Road, Zachary, was arrested after a short chase, police said.

He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in the armed robbery and is also wanted by New Orleans Police for another armed robbery, police said.
