Hammond officer accused of obtaining prescriptions by fraud

A Hammond police officer has been placed on administrative leave following her arrest on allegations of doctor-shopping.

Jennifer Payne Gautier, 35, a 13-year veteran of the Hammond Police Department, was booked Tuesday with possession of a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, department spokesman Lt. Vince Giannobile said.

Gautier, 46506 Pine Hill Court, Hammond, was seeing multiple doctors and received multiple prescriptions of controlled substances, according to an investigation by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s Tactical Diversion Division, Giannobile said.

Gautier surrendered and was booked in Hammond before being taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite, Giannobile said.
