Independence woman dies after single car accident on 1-10 Independence woman dies after single car accident on 1-10 advocate staff report April 29, 2014 Comments A woman from Independence died Monday night after her car hit a guardrail along 1nterstate 10 near Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge, State Police Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said. Patricia M. Martello, 51, of Independence, was driving a 2005 Honda Element westbound on 1-10 around 8 p.m. when she hit the right guardrail. Her car then crossed three lanes of traffic, struck the inside barrier and rotated around until it came to a stop facing the opposite direction, Sandifer said. Martello, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge where she died from her injuries. Sandifer said. State Police is still investigating what provoked the accident.
