Pedestrian struck, killed while walking on I-55 Pedestrian struck, killed while walking on I-55 Advocate staff report April 30, 2014 Comments A 20-year-old man died Saturday night after he was hit by a pickup while walking in the southbound lane of Interstate 55 near La. 22 in Tangipahoa Parish. Master Trooper Greg Marchand said Lavarius Grisby, of Ponchatoula, was pronounced dead by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office after the accident that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Marchand said Grisby was with other pedestrians who were walking against the flow of traffic in the left, southbound lane of I-55. Apparently, Grisby, who was wearing dark clothing, walked into the lane of traffic and was struck by a 1999 GMC truck driven by Michael K. Green, 42, of Avondale. Troopers do not know why Grisby was walking in the road, Marchand said. Green has not been cited because troopers do not suspect speed or alcohol use was a factor, but he could be cited or arrested pending the outcome of the investigation, Marchand said. A toxicology test was submitted to the State Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation.
