Troopers find cocaine in car during traffic stop in Hammond

State Police arrested a Tennessee man Thursday after finding more than a pound of cocaine in his car during a traffic stop on Interstate 12.

Clarence F. Drew, 39, of Knoxville, appeared noticeably nervous and refused to give troopers consent to search his black 2014 Ford Taurus after being pulled over for a traffic violation on I-12 eastbound near Hammond around 6 a.m. Thursday, Master Trooper Greg Marchand said.

The trooper requested a police dog, which alerted to the car. Troopers then found 1.4 pounds of powdered cocaine in the vehicle, Marchand said.

Drew was booked in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite on possession with intent to distribute cocaine and an unspecified traffic violation.
