House OKs requiring more info for abortion patients

The Louisiana House on Monday quickly approved expanding information required to be provided women and minor children seeking an abortion.

The House voted 80-10 for the measure by state Rep. Barry Ivey, R-Central.

House Bill 1262 would require information providing information, at least 24 hours prior to the procedure, the potential psychological and emotional impacts of an abortion.

In addition, information about illegal coercion, abuse and human trafficking would have to be provided via separate booklets on each subject.

The booklets would also provided resources available to help women and minor children facing the issues.

Ivey said victims of human trafficking are “often at abortion clinics multiple times.”

HB1262 now heads to the state Senate for debate .
