Man wanted in assault of pregnant woman

Baton Rouge police on Thursday issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of punching a pregnant woman and knocking her out of a vehicle, then repeatedly kicking her in the stomach before taking off in the car while she lay on the ground bleeding.

Edward T. Thompson, 27, 1214 N. 37th St., Baton Rouge, is wanted for carjacking, attempted first-degree feticide, second-degree robbery and domestic abuse battery, the arrest warrant says.

Thompson became irate with the victim over a cellphone Tuesday afternoon and punched her repeatedly in the head, causing her to fall out of the vehicle, the warrant says.

Then he got out of the car and kicked the woman, who was three-months pregnant, before grabbing the phone, stealing her money and jumping back in the car and driving off.

The victim told police Thompson previously threatened to kill the baby if she angered him, the warrant says.

Man accused of attempted rape arrested

A man accused of trying to rape a woman at a construction site Thursday has been arrested.

Baton Rouge police booked Roderick O’Neal Duff, 37, 7272 Burbank Drive, #5, Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on counts of attempted simple rape.

Duff and the woman had bought two cans of compressed air, vodka and cigarettes from nearby stores and were on their way to Duff’s home when Duff said he was tired and wanted to rest, the affidavit of probable cause says.

She huffed one of the cans, and he drank some vodka.

Duff then tried kissing the victim, but she turned away, the affidavit says. Then he pushed her down and unsuccessfully tried taking her pants off while she screamed “No” several times. He told police all they did was lay on the ground and talk, the affidavit says.
