The 7-year-old boy exited an East Baton Rouge Parish school bus at about 3:45 p.m. on Simplex Street in Zion City, then darted in front of a car headed eastbound on Cadillac Street and was struck, said Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman. There are stop signs for traffic on Simplex Street, but not for traffic on Cadillac Street, Coppola said. A 24-year-old woman driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala struck the child and she immediately stopped to cooperate with investigators, Coppola said. She was not cited for a traffic violation, Coppola said, although the incident remains under investigation. Neither she nor a 28-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet were injured in the crash. The boy remained in critical condition Wednesday night, Coppola said.
