The body of Jerrick Lane, 25, was pulled from the water by Gonzales Fire and Rescue personnel a short distance from where he jumped in, police Sgt. Steven Nethken said. Lane had fled as officers arrived on Abe Street to investigate a report of a man with a gun assaulting a woman there, Nethken said. Officers followed him into the bayou, but were unable to locate him, Nethken said. “There is an autopsy pending on the cause of death, which is suspected to be drowning,” he said. The woman was not injured, Nethken said. Nethken said he did not know what her relationship was to Lane.
