Police: Person of interest interviewed in Hammond killing

Investigators are interviewing a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a Hammond man Monday night, authorities said Tuesday.

A neighbor of Brian Keith Chester, 31, 1010 Phoenix Square, called 911 just before 11 p.m. Monday to report that Chester had been shot multiple times at his home, Hammond police Lt. Vince Giannobile said.

Chester was taken to North Oaks Medical Center, where he later died, Giannobile said.

A motive for the shooting is unclear at this time, Giannobile said, but investigators are interviewing witnesses including the person of interest.

Details about the number of times Chester was shot or the locations of his wounds will not be released until a suspect is in custody, Giannobile said.
