Apr 9, 2014 16:56 Baton Rouge police and fire briefs for April 9, 2014 Baton Rouge police and fire briefs for April 9, 2014 Advocate story April 09, 2014 Comments Motorcyclist, 44, killed in Monday night crash A Baton Rouge man was killed Monday night on Evangeline Street when his motorcycle was struck by a drunken driver in a car, a Baton Rouge police spokesman said. Dana Scott, 44, 9661 W. Darryl Drive, died in the crash that occurred in the 3700 block of Evangeline Street at about 7:30 p.m., Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., said. Scott was riding a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle east on Evangeline when a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Calvin Moore, 43, traveling west on Evangeline, attempted to make a left turn onto Maple Street, hitting Scott and throwing him off the motorcycle, Coppola said. Police booked Moore, 3419 Ontario St., Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on counts of vehicular homicide, first-offense DWI, reckless operation and failure to yield right of way. Officers detected alcohol on Moore’s breath and he admitted to police that he had been drinking prior to the crash, Coppola said. An alcohol breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.126, Coppola said. A blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving in Louisiana. Neither Moore nor the passenger in his car, Geroid Worman, 17, 4538 Shelly St., Baton Rouge, suffered any injuries in the crash, Coppola said. Authorities book three on suspicion of DWI Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, booking records show. Those booked and the counts against them: Renard Foster, 23, 4712 Winnebago St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, speeding, disobeying control device and driving left of center. Calvin Moore, 43, 3419 Ontario St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, vehicular homicide, reckless operation and failure to yield right of way. Robert Weber, 28, 4046 Geronimo St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle. Compiled from staff reports. To talk to a crime reporter at The Advocate, call (225) 388-0369.
