Sammy’s owners plan Burbank sports bar Sammy’s owners plan Burbank sports bar BY TIMOTHY BOONE| email@example.com April 12, 2014 Comments The owners of Sammy’s Grill are planning a sports bar that would be part of The Oasis development on Burbank Drive, across from South Kenilworth Parkway. Developer Chris Shaheen said the unnamed new restaurant would be 5,500 square feet with a covered patio. “It will be in a smaller building than Sammy’s and the menu is not going to be nearly as big,” Shaheen said. “But you’ll know it’s affiliated with Sammy’s.” The restaurant would be next to The Deck, a 10,000-square-foot open-air venue with sand volleyball courts, virtual golf and an outdoor theater screen, that will be used to show movies and sporting events and host video game contests. While The Deck will be available for private events, it will tie into the restaurant. “They’ll be able to do one hell of a crawfish boil out there, along with pig roasts,” he said. Plans are to start building the restaurant and The Deck by the end of May and to open in January. The Oasis development will also include a 10,000-square-foot reception hall that would have onsite catering provided by Sammy’s, Shaheen said. “There’s a demand for a reception hall in south Baton Rouge,” he said. The plan is to start work on the reception space after The Deck is running smoothly.
