GONZALES — A couple booked on battery counts Friday in the beating of a woman now face attempted second-degree murder counts after authorities considered the seriousness of the victim’s injuries, according to Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Friday, deputies responding to a call about people fighting at a home at 16231 Joe Sevario Road, Prairieville, found a severely beaten woman on the sidewalk in front of the home, Maj. Ward Webb said in a news release.
The 27-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where she is listed in critical condition, Webb said.
Deputies learned from witnesses that another woman, Ashleigh Parker, 21, and the victim had an argument that turned into a fight.
Parker called her boyfriend, Manly Gilley, 29, and after he arrived at the scene, Gilley and Parker continued beating and kicking the woman until she was unconscious, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Parker and Gilley, both of 16231 Joe Sevario Road, were booked into Ascension Parish Jail, and are being held without bond.
