New Orleans Film Festival announces 2014 dates New Orleans Film Festival announces 2014 dates Advocate staff report Aug. 03, 2014 Comments The New Orleans Film Society’s 25th annual New Orleans Film Festival will take place Oct. 16 through Oct. 23 at venues throughout the city. The festival’s film submissions regular deadline is April 11. The festival features eight juried categories: narrative feature, narrative shorts, documentary feature, documentary shorts, Louisiana features, Louisiana shorts, experimental, animation and the new category of music videos. Festival submissions have doubled in the past three years, program director Clint Bowie said. “The festival is fast becoming known as an event where emerging filmmakers flock for the opportunity to connect with each other and interact with a diverse audience.” The festival’s late film submission deadline is May 9. Extended late deadline for narrative shorts, documentary shorts, animation, experimental and music videos is June 20. The extended late deadline for narrative features and documentary features is July 1. The extended late deadline for Louisiana submissions is July 11. For more information about submitting films, see neworleansfilmsociety.org. Last year’s New Orleans Film Festival drew more than 300 filmmakers, representing 212 festival selections. The 2013 festival also saw the Louisiana premier and pre-release screening of “12 Years a Slave,” a Louisiana-set drama that later won Academy Awards for best motion picture, best supporting actress and best adapted screenplay. “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen and cast members including Lupita Nyong’o, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard and Sarah Paulson walked the red carpet for the film’s Civic Theatre screening in October.
