No injuries reported in train-pickup accident near Baker

No one was injured early Wednesday when a pickup truck ran into the sixth railcar of a train that was backing up on the tracks near Baker, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office announced.

The driver of the 2008 Chevrolet pickup said he didn’t see the train, which was moving at 3 miles per hour at the railroad crossing in the 1800 block of Thomas Road around 4:50 a.m., sheriff’s office spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

The pickup driver was cited for careless operation, failure to yield at a railroad crossing and expired motor vehicle inspection, and his pickup was towed away, because of the damage to it, Hicks said.
