Unrestrained driver dies from wreck Unrestrained driver dies from wreck Advocate staff report March 23, 2014 Comments A Church Point man is dead after his pickup truck ran off the side of U.S. 190 late Saturday and smashed into a culvert, a State Police spokesman said. Michael Cunningham, 45, was transported to a hospital in critical condition after the accident, but he died shortly after reaching the hospital, Trooper First Class Stephen Hammons said. Cunningham was driving westbound on U.S. 190, west of Lawtell, about 11:40 p.m., when his truck ran off the right side of the highway into a ditch and hit the culvert, Hammons said. Cunningham was not wearing a seat belt. Hammons said Cunningham might have been intoxicated. A toxicology sample was sent to the State Crime Lab for analysis, he said, the investigation is ongoing.
