Police: BR roads reopened after freezing morning Police: BR roads reopened after freezing morning Advocate staff photo by CATHERINE THRELKELD -- Traffic is diverted off I-10 onto College Drive on Tuesday in Baton Rouge. Winter weather conditions caused several roads to be closed throughout Baton Rouge. Advocate staff report March 05, 2014 Comments After a messy, icy morning, roads throughout Baton Rouge, including Interstate 10, have reopened, authorities announced. Freezing temperatures, combined with sleet and freezing rain that began at 6 a.m., had contributed to accidents and closed many roads, bridges and overpasses through the morning, but didn’t stop parades in New Roads and Lafayette from rolling as scheduled. Along within Baton Rouge, Interstate 10 has reopened along the Mississippi River Bridge and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in both directions, Louisiana State Police announced. While temperatures have risen, driving the ice away, Carnival is expected to remain a wet experience. The National Weather Service forecast calls for moderate rain for all Mardi Gras day, meteorologist Mike Shields said. Jim Caldwell, a spokesman for the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, said there have been numerous delays and cancellations for scheduled flights to the major hubs, including Atlanta, Houston and Dallas.
