Mar 10, 2014 17:15 Lake Charles woman booked in Acadia fatality Lake Charles woman booked in Acadia fatality Advocate staff March 10, 2014 Comments Emily MarcantelLAFAYETTE — A Lake Charles woman suspected of driving drunk was booked Sunday on one count of vehicular homicide after the car she was driving in Acadia Parish hit a ditch, killing an unrestrained passenger riding beside her. Emily Marcantel, 22, was driving a Ford Focus west on La. 370 near Roxie Road when the accident occurred at 7:56 p.m., Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said in a news release. While traversing a curve, Marcantel’s car left the right side of the road, hit a ditch and overturned, he said. The unrestrained passenger, Taylor Bellard, 22, of Eunice, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, Hammons said. “Marcantel was found to have a blood alcohol level about the legal limit,” he said. She also was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail on counts of reckless operation and not wearing a seat belt.
