Autopsy scheduled Monday morning
The body of an 85-year-old Jarreau man was pulled from the charred remains of his mobile home Saturday afternoon.
The chief deputy for the state Fire Marshal’s Office, Brant Thompson, identified the victim Sunday as Henry H. Jipson, 5327 Island Road, Jarreau.
Thompson said the agency is withholding some information, including where the body was found inside the mobile home and the cause of the fire, but may release those details Monday afternoon after the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office conducts the autopsy.
The autopsy is scheduled for 8 a.m. Monday.
Investigators are treating Jipson’s death as if it is a crime as they do all fire deaths until they find something that tells them otherwise, Thompson said.
Firefighters from the Pointe Coupee Fire District No. 3 were called to the fire in the mobile home park at about 12:12 p.m., Thompson said.
The mobile home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, Thompson said.
“There were other trailers in proximity, but it did not spread to other trailers in the park,” Thompson said.
He said the fire was under control at about 12:30 p.m.
Jipson was the only person inside the two-bedroom, 14-by-65-foot mobile home, Thompson said.
Investigators said the fire likely began in the living room, but that was not where Jipson’s body was found by firefighters, Thompson said.
The investigation is continuing.
