Stick shift stymies would-be carjacker in Lafayette Stick shift stymies would-be carjacker in Lafayette Acadiana Advocate staff March 06, 2014 Comments LAFAYETTE — Lafayette police Wednesday booked a Scott man in an attempted carjacking after he couldn’t drive away, befuddled by the car’s manual transmission. After Harold Sam, 18, pulled the victim from her vehicle, he couldn’t get the car to go and ordered her to get back in and drive, Cpl. Paul Mouton said. When she refused to get back into the car with him, Sam fled on foot, Mouton said. The alleged carjacking occured at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot at 120 E. Gloria Switch Road. Police located Sam a short time later. He is booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on counts of attempted carjacking, attempted simple kidnapping, resisting an officer and possession of marijuana.
