Baton Rouge man wanted, accused of attempted feticide

An arrest warrant for attempted feticide was issued Tuesday for a Baton Rouge man accused of choking his girlfriend, then kicking the seven-months pregnant woman in the stomach after she fell on the ground.

After the assault, Darrell Zhiere Johnson, 18, stormed out the door, saying, “I never wanted that baby anyway,” according to the arrest warrant issued by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Doctors told deputies “that at that point in time, they were not aware of any damage being caused to the child, but had not received the results of all the tests,” the warrant said.

Johnson, last known address of 14121 Azalea Park Ave., Apt. 2, is wanted on counts of attempted second-degree feticide and domestic abuse battery.

The incident occurred Feb. 20 at their Azalea Park Avenue apartment, the warrant said.

The couple got into an argument, during which Johnson slapped his girlfriend and knocked her down, the warrant said.

When she got back to her feet, they scuffled and he placed both hands around her throat and began choking her, the warrant said. He released his hold and she again fell to the floor, the warrant said, then he kicked her in the stomach at least one time, the warrant said.

After Johnson stormed out, the victim drove to Ochsner Medical Center on O’Neal Lane “for fear of the well-being of her unborn child,” the warrant said.
