All lanes of Highland exit from I-10 E. reopened after diesel spill cleaned up

A piece of debris punctured the left fuel tank of a truck spilling about 100 gallons of diesel onto the ground at Interstate 10 East near Highland Road, the Baton Rouge Fire Department reported.

“Our Hazmat team is on the scene,” Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said. “They’ve got it barricaded now and cleanup crews are on the way.”

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that the exit ramp at Highland is partially blocked, but that there was no congestion from the incident.

“Certainly with emergency workers on scene we ask people to use caution when going through that area,” Monte said.
