FRENCH SETTLEMENT — A 16-year-old girl was killed Wednesday night when she was struck by one vehicle and thrown into the path of another on La. 16 in French Settlement, the village’s police chief said.
The girl, a French Settlement High sophomore whose name had not been released pending notification of kin, was walking north on La. 16 about a mile from the school shortly before 8 p.m. when she tried to cross the highway, Police Chief Harry Brignac said.
A Dodge Durango clipped the girl as she tried to cross, Brignac said.
The impact caused the girl to fall into the other lane of traffic, where a Jeep Cherokee hit her, Brignac said.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, Brignac said.
Neither driver was cited because investigators determined the accident was unavoidable, Brignac said.
