Local make-up artist wins award for ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ Local make-up artist wins award for ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ Advocate staff report April 09, 2014 Comments New Orleans makeup artist Robin Mathews’ work for “Dallas Buyers Club” was honored Saturday by her peers in the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild with the guild’s best period and/or character makeup award. The “Dallas Buyers Club,” filmed in New Orleans, also earned Mathews an Oscar nomination in the best makeup and hairstyling category. The Academy Awards ceremony is March 2. The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards took place Saturday at the Paramount Theater on the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood. Another film shot in New Orleans, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” won for best contemporary hair styling. Mathews’ many film and TV credits include “The Voice,” “Oz the Great and Powerful,” “Django Unchained,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” “Dallas Buyers Club,” a drama about AIDS-infected Texas electrician Ron Woodroof’s battles with the medical profession in the 1980s, has six Oscar nominations in all, including best picture, a best actor nomination for Matthew McConaughey and a best supporting actor nomination for Jared Leto.
