Thomas Harrison, of Paulding, Miss., was driving east on La. 10 in a 2002 Ford pickup around 2 p.m., when his truck crossed the center line and struck the front left steering axle of a 2007 Freightliner, said Master Trooper Greg Marchand, of the State Police, on Thursday. The impact caused both Harrison’s truck and the 18-wheeler to spin slightly, with the Freightliner coming to rest partially crossing both lanes of the highway, Marchand said. Harrison was restrained but was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office, Marchand said. The driver of the 18-wheeler, Calvin Green, 43, of Natchez, Miss., also was properly restrained but was not injured. Authorities suspect Harrison was impaired, and toxicology results are pending, Marchand said. The crash remains under investigation.
