Two arrested in drive-by slaying in Independence

Tangipahoa Parish deputies arrested two people Tuesday and are searching for a third suspect in Sunday night’s shooting that left a 37-year-old woman dead.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Sandra Butler, of Palms Trailer Park, Independence, was an innocent bystander shot in a drive-by shooting in a feud involving rap lyrics.

Deputies arrested Davontaye Jackson, 19, on Monday in Independence and, with the help of Hammond police and police dogs, arrested Verdale Anthony Moore, 24, of Hammond, on Tuesday, Edwards said.

Both have been booked on counts of first-degree murder, Edwards said.

The third suspect, Kenneth Johnson, 17, of Hammond, is still at large and thought to be in the New Orleans area, Edwards said.

Anyone with information about Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 554-5245.
