Capitol news bureau Jan. 31, 2014 Comments Secretary of State Tom Schedler reopened his Baton Rouge office late Thursday morning to serve business owners and elections officials. A limited number of staff members volunteered to come to work, despite state office closures, to man the Commercial and Elections Divisions, Schedler said in a news release. Walk-in service for business filings will be available in the Commercial Division until 4:30 p.m. and the Elections Division is actively preparing for the Saturday municipal elections in Orleans Parish. “With the weather quickly improving I felt that if businesses across the area could open, then we could open to serve them,” said Schedler. “Additionally, our elections staff have been working diligently to make sure all is ready for the big election in New Orleans on Saturday. We couldn’t let the weather get in the way of doing business any longer.” State offices in East Baton Rouge and many other parishes statewide have been closed since Tuesday due to icy conditions.
