First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Jan. 18 decreased to 2,726 from the previous week’s total of 3,330.
There were 3,850 initial claims during the comparable week in 2013, the Louisiana Workforce Commission reported Monday.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,505 from the previous week’s average of 2,468.
Continued unemployment weeks for the week ending Jan. 18 increased to 24,476 compared to 24,266 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 24,208 from the previous week’s average of 24,186.
