Most area public, Catholic schools to close Tuesday, Wednesday

LAFAYETTE — Lafayette, Iberia, Acadia, Vermilion, Evangeline, St. Landry and St. Martin Parish schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday due to predictions of more ice and possibly snow.

Diocese of Lafayette schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

South Louisiana Community College has announced a closure of its campuses on Tuesday. College officials will make a decision by 3 p.m. Tuesday about any potential closure for Wednesday.

All extracurricular, including sporting events, district events and club meetings/events are also cancelled.

School district officials cited icy weather conditions and below-freezing temperatures and the expectation of hazardous driving conditions as the reasons for the closures.

Also, residential waste and recycling will not be collected on Tuesday in Lafayette, Lafayette City-Parish Government announced Monday.

Allied Waste and the Recycling Foundation, which, have the contracts for residential garbage and recycling service in Lafayette, will assess road conditions on Wednesday morning to determine if collections will resume on Wednesday, according to city-parish government.

The Lafayette City-Parish Council rescheduled its planned Tuesday meeting for Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m., Lafayette City-Parish Government announced Monday.

The administrative offices of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, but patrols and emergency services will be operational at heightened levels, the sheriff’s office announced..
